Settled on a hilltop on the northern side of Istria's Mirna river's valley, Oprtalj is a small town with history starting in the ancient times and boasting an abundance of monuments from the middle ages. Many believe that Oprtalj is the most Tuscan-like of all Istrian towns.

The rich cultural heritage is matched by the gastronomic offer of Oprtalj and its countryside. Down in Mirnay Valley Livade, Istria's capital of truffles is part of the township. From the olive oils produced around Oprtalj Ipša and Zigante are regularly make it into World's best 20 olive oils selected by Flos Olei.
